Influence of Parameters of Screen Printing on Photoluminescence Properties of Nanophotonic Labels for Smart Packaging

Abstract: Smart packaging is becoming more popular on world market as a new type of packaging able to react to changes in a packaged product during storage and informs a customer about the safety of consumption of packaged food. This article investigates the main technological issues of the use of nanophotonic printing inks based on ZnO/SiO2 nanoparticles and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) for printing active elements of smart packaging on paper substrates, concerning material properties and parameters of screen printing. I… Show more

“…For 400 nm < λ < 450 nm, the calculated total reflectance value goes beyond 1. This is because generic white paper and photopaper tend to have optical brightening agents (OBA) for enhancing whiteness [30]. OBA are chemicals that absorbs UV light (λ < 400 nm) and emit longer wavelength, mainly blue.…”

“…Screen printing is suitable for both inorganic and organic materials with different viscosities despite layer function or substrate flexibility. Screen printing and its requirements for printing ink compositions with nanoparticles were also studied and discussed for SP (Hrytsenko, Shvalagin, Grodziuk, & Granchak, ). As for inkjet printing, droplets of ink are injected from a nozzle onto either a rigid or flexible substrate (Calvert, ; Singh, Haverinen, Dhagat, & Jabbour, ; Song et al., ).…”

“…In this context, printed non-forgeable security features for use in labels with tamper evidence, security tapes, cheques, postage stamps, bank notes, passports, stock certificates, and identity documents are in high demand (Abdollahi et al 2020a;Friškovec et al 2013;Gangwar et al 2018;Tobias and Everett 2019). It is possible to incorporate non-replicable security components into either the substrate or the printing ink (Abdollahi et al 2020b;Ataeefard and Nourmohammadian 2015;Hrytsenko et al 2017;Meng et al 2014).…”
