Influence of Plant Growth Regulators on Yield Contributing Characters and Yield of Bell Pepper (Capsicum annum) Varieties

Abstract: The influences of four levels of plant growth regulators on BARI Misti Morich-1 and Lamuyo varieties of bell pepper were studied at the horticulture farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh from October 2012 to March 2013. Plant Growth Regulators (PGR) was applied on bell pepper varieties which had significant effect on yield of bell pepper. Among those treatments, growth regulator 4-CPA was more potential to enhance flowering by 4.00 days earlier and it also increased number of flowers… Show more

“…This could be attributed to enhanced photosynthetic activity, increased production and accumulation of carbohydrates and favourable effect on vegetative growth and retention of flowers which increased fruit set percentage and decreasing days to first fruit setting. These results are in accordance with the findings of Baliyan et al, [12] in tomato and Das et al, [13] in bell pepper.…”

“…The effect of fruit load by fruit setting may be a primary concern (Heuvelink et al, 2004;Wubs et al, 2009a, b;Ma et al, 2011). Although phytohormones, auxins and gibberellins, are known to improve fruit setting in sweet pepper (Wien and Zhang, 1991;Tiwari et al, 2012;Das et al, 2015;Kaur et al, 2017), the factors involved in fruit abscission are poorly understood.…”

“…Deb, Suresh, Saha, and Das (2009) found a major response of NAA regarding the number of fruits per plant. It was noticed that the application of 4-CPA enhances fruit set by reducing fruit abscission that contributed to a better range of fruit plant -1 (Das, Sarkar, Alam, Robbani, & Kabir, 2015).…”
