Seam slippage often occurs with some garments during the process of wearing or washing, which not only affects the appearance of the garment but also influences garment quality. The purpose of this study is to find out the factors that affect the seam slippage of garments. In order to make the test results closer to those of the garment itself, this study first proposed to make the fabric into a Japanese woman's prototype sample, in order to simulate the garments produced by a garment enterprise. Then, according to standards GB/T 13772.2-2008/ISO 13936-2: 2004 and GB/T 21294-2014, samples were made and seam slippage at the armhole and side seam was tested. Experimental results reveal that the factors that cause the seam slippage of garments are the fabric, seam type and sewing thread. According to the regression analysis, the seam type has a significant effect on the seam slippage of the armhole and side seam, with Pearson correlation coefficients of −0.715 and −0.650, respectively. Thickness, weight, weft density and weave type of the fabric are also important in terms of seam slippage. The weight of the fabric is more significant than other factors; the significant values at the armhole and side seam are 0.009 and 0.002, respectively. In the linear equation, it is shown that weft breaking strength of the fabric only impacts the seam slippage at the side seam. Sewing thread is another important factor for the seam slippage of garments, and its influence on the armhole is obvious; the larger the sewing thread linear density of polyester material is, the smaller the seam slippage is.

In order to reduce the functional degradation caused by improper daily washing-care and prolong the service life of technical jacket, the relationship between the daily washing conditions and functional degradation in the wearing performance of technical jacket (waterproof, windproof, warmth retention) was quantitatively investigated with the help of hydrostatic pressure, surface contact angle, air permeability, warmth retention, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of technical jacket after different daily washing conditions. Results showed that no matter what kind of washing modes, washing parameters, type and dosage of detergent, the wearing performance of technical jacket after washing were subjected to decrease compared with pre-washing. Additionally, it was also found that the effects of washing modes, type of detergents and washing parameters on the wearing performance of the technical jacket were significant, instead of the dosage of detergents. This indicates it was possible ways to minimize functional degradation by setting optimal washing conditions (washing parameters, washing mode, types and dosage of detergent). Balancing considerations of functional degradation and washing efficiency, the washing combination of mechanical agitation + micro-nano bubbles), type of detergent (neutral liquid detergent), dosage of detergent (3 g/L), water temperature (20°C), main washing bath ratio (1:10), main washing speed (15 rpm), main washing time (20 min), rinsing speed (30 rpm), rinsing cycles (2), belonged to the optimal washing combination in this study of washing condition. The results were of practical significance to guide manufacturers of washing machine to develop optimal daily washing produce for outdoor clothing, especially technical jacket.

Seam performance ensures the durability, attractiveness, strength etc. of the sewn garments. Fabric types, fabric densities, fabric strength, seam types, sewing thread count, thread strength, stitch densities and stitch types influence the performance of a sewn seam. This paper investigates the performance of sewn seam of various structure of woven fabric. The variables of this research are stitch densities (SPI), sewing thread count, seam types and woven structures. We conduct our research over plain, twill 2/1, twill 2/2, oxford and poplin woven structure. Firstly, we apply lockstitch (301) to produce superimposed, lapped and bound seam on the woven sample by using thread count 27 Tex, 30 Tex, 20/2 Tex, 40 Tex, 40/2 Tex, 40/3 Tex having stitch densities (SPI) 8, 10 and 12. Then according to ASTM D1683 standard, we measured the tensile strength test and recorded the seam breaking strength (N). We apply error bars over each diagram to investigate the standard deviation. Finally, we discuss four hypothesis to conclude our research work. We found higher seam breaking strength with the increase of thread count and SPI. The bound seam samples has shown superior seam breaking strength than superimposed and lapped seam; poplin structure surpassed to others. The seam efficiency of the samples varies from 60–90% and do not exceeds 100%. Finally, we found some significant alternatives hypothesis of the population since F values exceeded F critical values for the sewn seam.
