Influence of Temperature on The Formation of Damages in Asphalt Concrete Pavements Under Climatic Conditions of the Republic of Belarus

Abstract: Climatic conditions of the territory where the road is located (air temperature, solar radiation) influence the "work" of asphalt concrete pavements. The influence causes shear deformations at high positive temperatures and the occurrence of cracks at low negative temperatures. In the late 80s, in the USA the asphalt pavement design system Superpave (Superior Performing Asphalt Pavements) defined the temperature limits of pavement "work". The Performance Grade parameter has been introduced associated with the … Show more

“…Some European countries also developed climatic zones by the Superpave method from this part of Central and Eastern Europe as part of their research and development (Błażejowski, & Wójcik-Wiśniewska, 2018;Leonovich, & Melnikova, 2012). The division of the country into climate zones by the PG system, to which the authors obtained access, was performed in addition to Poland, Estonia and Belarus (Table 1).…”

“…Asphalt becomes a plastomer that deforms under high-temperature conditions, and its shape cannot be completely recovered. Hence, asphalt pavements are prone to permanent deformation under the influence of repeated loading [24], and high temperatures are one of the main causes of the permanent deformation of asphalt pavements. High temperatures also directly affect the smoothness of the pavement and reduce the performance and service life of the road.…”

“…At the same time, the problem of improving their shear and crack resistance remains relevant. Climatic conditions in Belarus are unfavorable for effective maintenance due to wet winter and frequent temperature transitions through zero [1]. Overabundance of precipitation leads to the destruction of the pavement material and, if it Р е п о з и т о р и й Б Н Т У contains corrosive materials, it leads to corrosion of metal bridges and other structures.…”
