Influence of the micro-structural factors upon thermal and mechanical properties of various bag leathers

Abstract: Four different bag leathers, such as, Sheep Bag Leather (SBL), Buffalo Vegetable Tanned Leather (BVTL), Cow Drum Dyed Dry Milled Leather (CDDDML), and Cow Crocodile Print Leather (CCPL), were processed by different methods from respective wet-blues of Indian origin. Thermal degradation profile and mechanical properties of the samples were evaluated, and crosslink densities of each sample were measured by fitment of Mooney-Rivlin equation on stress-strain plots. Morphological characteristics (e.g. fibre structu… Show more

“…7 Its final degree of crosslinking, hierarchical structure and mechanical properties will define the specific characteristics of the final leather product. [8][9][10][11][12] Nowadays, retanning has become an important stage in the leather manufacturing process. It contributes to the structural modification and stabilization of collagen fibres and it gives specific characteristics to the final leather (selective filling of the structure, tight and uniform grain surface, elasticity, etc.).…”
