The 43 rd Committee on World Food Security (CFS) convention reiterated the importance of livestock towards eliminating food insecurity across the globe. Livestock provides extensive services and products which are critical in addressing the issues of hunger, malnutrition, health and diseases. However, despite such importance, livestock systems across the globe continue to face the challenge of sustainability. In this research article, using ethnographic research techniques, we examine the Beitbridge livestock systems to understand the vulnerabilities within the system and current efforts to overcome. The article identifies that the Beitbridge livestock system, similar to many others, faces numerous socio-ecological and political economy challenges. Also, in the past engagement of the author and the community, it emerged that there was limited use of digital technologies within the community. Therefore, this study explore whether digital technologies can contribute towards sustainability of livestock and if so, how. The major findings of the study are that, DTs have affordances which can be exploited to contribute towards the sustainability of the livestock system. However, in order for this to happen, there is need for convergence of conditions e.g. presence of supporting institutions and improvement of digital infrastructure. These findings confirm the need for context based studies on DTs. The findings of the study provide practitioners and policy makers 'something to think about' in the development of DTs and supporting systems.

Recently, Internet of things (IoTs) has become the main issue in designing monitoring systems such as smart environments, smart cars, and smart wearable devices. IoTs has transformed the life of people to be more adaptable and intelligent. For example, in a healthcare monitoring system, using smart devices will improve the performance of doctors, nurses, patients, and the healthcare industry. The IoTs revolution is known as the fourth industrial revolution and would change the way humans interact with machines and lead the way to a high-technology machine-to-machine interaction. In fact, almost every device around us would be connected to Internet, collecting and exchanging data with other devices on the cloud. In this chapter, we will introduce the benefits of IoTs on telecommunication networks and its challenges to give a complete overview for researchers to know how to improve our life and society by building smart IoTs systems.

Este ensayo analiza la importancia de la comunicación del cambio climático en un contexto local específico poniendo énfasis en la semántica usada por los medios masivos influenciada por un discurso científico-técnico, asimismo, reflexiona sobre las oportunidades para hacer que dicha comunicación sea efectiva y convierta al cambio climático en un tema de comunicación social. Lo anterior requirió fundamentalmente de una revisión documental sobre el papel de los medios masivos en la comunicación del cambio climático y de los principios de la teoría Luhmanniana, así mismo, del uso de información generada previamente a través de una encuesta y entrevistas a profundidad. Los resultados muestran que la compresión del significado del cambio climático y sus impactos en la agricultura en el mediano y largo plazo requiere considerar la semántica como una construcción colectiva utilizada en las operaciones comunicativas por los productores y sus familias en el contexto local, esto posibilitará la generación de capacidades adaptativas y por ende, el diseño e implementación de acciones proactivas para la adaptación de la agricultura del trópico subhúmedo mexicano ante el cambio climático.
