“…To this end, motivational interviewing explores patients' motivation, helps to resolve their ambivalence and favours the learning of new skills-or the strengthening of current ones-to face different situations (Miller & Rollnick, 2013). Furthermore, some evidence suggests that in certain circumstances, such as hospital admission, a single session of a BMI could be effective for the adoption of certain behaviours (Cordovilla-Guardia, Cordovilla-Guardia, Vilar-López, et al, 2017), especially when this intervention is combined with a telephonic booster after discharge (Donovan et al, 2015;Field et al, 2014;Mello et al, 2013). However, in these studies, a trend towards significance was observed for the effect of BMI on this behaviour (Wilhelm, Aguirre, Koehler, & Rodehorst, 2015;Wilhelm, Stepans, Hertzog, Rodehorst, & Gardner, 2006).…”

“…In this sense, in health sciences, a "teachable moment" has been defined as a situation or set of circumstances that leads an individual to modify his health behaviour in a positive way (Lawson & Flocke, 2009). The increase in the efficacy of the education and health promotion initiatives related to the special receptivity that results from experiencing certain situations has been studied and applied in multiple contexts and situations, such as a hospital admission (Cordovilla-Guardia, Cordovilla-Guardia, Vilar-López, et al, 2017;Fonarow, 2003) or communication of the diagnosis of a sickness or pregnancy (Pollak et al, 2010). In the same way, the mother's first experience of breastfeeding in the immediate postpartum period (2 hr after birth) could be a teachable moment for a BMI that might increase adherence to exclusive breastfeeding during the hospital stay, a factor that has been identified as a positive predictor of prolonged exclusive breastfeeding after discharge (Koskinen et al, 2014;Wambach et al, 2005).…”
