Inheritance and mapping of vicilin storage protein genes in Pisum Sativum L

Abstract: SUMMARYGel electrophoresis techniques have been used to investigate genetically controlled variation in the major subunits (Mr 50,000) of vicilin, a storage protein of Pisum sativum L. The F1 protein band patterns were shown to be additive with respect to those of the parental lines and to be identical in reciprocal crosses. Genetic analysis of the F2 plants indicated that the 50,000 Mr vicilin subunit band pattern is controlled by a pair of co-dominant genes at single locus. The F2 data were used to locate th… Show more

“…3 is drawn from the data of Matta and Gatehouse (1982). 4 The position of Vcl was deduced by Mahmoud and Gatehouse (1984). 5 combines the work presented in this paper with the mapping of a legumin locus detected as a restriction fragment length polymorphism using the legumin cDNA clone pCD43 (Domoney et al 1986) this other class of vicilin mRNA will be difficult.…”

“…6). No vicilin DNA sequence has been found to be tightly linked to the r locus, suggesting that the genes and cDNAs derived from Vc-1 (Mahmoud and Gatehouse 1984) have not been isolated. Furthermore low stringency genomic hybridization experiments, with the probes used here, do not identify fragments unaccounted for in these experiments, suggesting that attempts to isolate Ve-1 Lg-1 Vc-2 RFLP1 Vo-3 Fig.…”
