The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the endocrine function and morphological characteristics of subcutaneous heterotopic allogenic and autogenic ovarian transplantation in immune-suppressed rabbits. Each group included seven rabbits. Group I (allogenic group) underwent freshly subcutaneous allogeneic heterotopic transplantation (n=7) (from group III to group I). Group II (autogenic group) underwent freshly subcutaneous autogenic heterotopic transplantation (n7).Group III was the donor group (n=7). The levels of serum follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) were significantly lower during the 2 nd week (P=0.017) than during the 3 rd week in group I, and were significantly higher during the 4 th week than at other times (P=0.001) in group II. The levels of serum 17-β estradiol (E 2 ) were significantly lower during the 3 rd week (P=0.008) than during the 1 st and 2 nd weeks in group I, and were significantly lower during the 4 th week than at other times (P=0.001) in group II. The levels of serum progesterone (P 4 ) were not vary significantly (P=0.441) in group I and were significantly higher during the 1 st week than during the 3 rd week (P=0.033) in group II according to the ANOVA. Histological examination was performed using light microscopy after staining with hematoxylineosin (HE). Our results showed that there is no remarkable difference between autogenic and allogeneic heterotopic freshly transplanted ovarian tissue, especially in terms of the FSH and P 4 levels during a four week period. We found that autogenic and allogeneic freshly transplanted ovarian tissues had similar characteristics in terms of the endocrine and histological characteristics.

Mediante la irradiación se generan moléculas con radicales libres altamente reactivas que alteran la estructura del ADN, llevando a una alteración en la proliferación celular. Se puede utilizar antes de la cirugía en un tumor inoperable, o con posterioridad a la misma para eliminar restos tumorales. También puede estar indicada en los síndromes dolorosos o compresivos producidos por el tumor o sus metástasis. Como las secuelas a largo plazo de la irradiación son dosis-dependientes, los niños que la precisan se tratan con la menor dosis eficaz. Sin embargo, la dosis de radioterapia, su fraccionamiento, la duración del tratamiento y el campo de irradiación dependerán del tipo de cáncer, la extensión de la enfermedad, la edad del paciente y su tolerancia al tratamiento. En general, los efectos adversos derivados de la radioterapia no aparecen de forma inmediata tras su administración, sino que se presentan después de un periodo de latencia más o menos Introducción 7 largo 7,10,11 . Indirect evaluation of estrogenic activity post heterotopic ovarian autograft in rats

Purpose: To morphologically evaluate the estrogenic effect on the uterus and vagina of rats submitted to ovarian autografts. Methods: Twenty Wistar EPM-1 adult rats were bilaterally ovariectomized, followed by ovarian transplants in retroperitoneal regions. The animals were divided in four groups of five animals, according to the day of euthanasia: G4, G7, G14 and G21, corresponding to the 4th, 7th, 14th and 21st day after surgery, respectively. Vaginal smears were collected from the first day of surgery until euthanasia day. After that, the vagina and uterus were removed, fixed in 10% formaldehyde and submitted to histological analysis and stained with hematoxiline and eosine. Results: All animals showed estrous cycle changes during the experiment. In 4th day, the uterus showed low action of estrogen with small number of mitosis and eosinophils as well as poor development. On the 7th day, the endometrium was atrophic without mitotic signals and presented a small number of eosinophils. On the 14th and 21th days the histological findings were similar, with the presence of mitosis in the endometrial glands and intense leucocyte infiltration with a large number of eosinophils. Morphometric results showed that the endometrial and myometrial thickness as well as the number of eosinophils presented the highest values during the 14th and 21th days of the evaluation. The 7th day group also presented the lowest eosinophil numbers. Vaginal epithelium features were: 4th and 7th day groups presented non-keratinized stratified epithelium with 5 and 2 cell layers, respectively. The 14th and 21st day groups presented nonkeratinized stratified epithelium with 14 and 15 cell layers. Conclusion: Experimental ovarian autografts in the evaluated organs presented maximum estrogen activity after the 21st day of surgery, according to morphological and morphometric data.
