“…The deposition of hydrocarbons or oil/weathered oil at the sediment-water interface can considerably alter the biogeochemistry of benthic systems and impact inhabiting organisms that maintain a close relationship with these substrates (Rivero et al 2005;Massara Paletto et al 2008).
