Inorganic–organic nanohybrid of MoS2-PANI for advanced photocatalytic application

Abstract: In this work, the fabrication of MoS 2 -Polyaniline (PANI) nanocomposites, by in situ polymerization, has been described and its application as a photocatalyst for the degradation of organic pollutants such as methylene blue (MB) and 4-chlorophenol (4-CP), has been reported. The disadvantages of MoS 2 such as poor electronic conductivity and agglomeration between the nanosheets, was overcome by intercalating 2D MoS 2 layers with 1D conducting polymer, Polyaniline (PANI). The composite material was characterise… Show more

“…When these organic dyes are discharged into water resources, they can be very harmful. [22][23][24][25] Malachite Green (MG), a watersoluble cationic dye used as an antifungal, antimicrobial and a topical antiseptic in aquaculture since 1930, 26,27 has a structure similar to carcinogenic triphenylmethane dyes. Besides, the effluent containing Cr(VI) ions, the inorganic heavy metal water pollutant, is very toxic and detrimental to the environment.…”

“…The SEM and TEM analysis proved that the as-prepared composite material shows a uniform and wellorganized surface morphology. [33] Figure 2a shows the XRD pattern of the PANI, Fe 311), ( 442) and (440) crystalline phases of the Fe 3 O 4 particle. [34] For the XRD analysis of PANI/Fe 3 O 4 composite, a small broad peak placed at 2θ = 25.3°in the XRD plot of composite shows the overlapping of the PANI reflection peaks ensuring the existence of PANI on the surface of the Fe 3 O 4 particles.…”

“…Numerous semiconductors such as MoS 2 , MoSe 2 , CeO 2 , WS 2 , WSe 2 , TiO 2 , ZnO, and ZnS are used as photocatalysts for environmental remediation. [6][7][8][9] In recent years, g-C 3 N 4 (GCN) has gained much attention as a potential nanomaterial for the treatment of wastewater due to its large abundance, high stability, non-toxic and environmental friendly nature. [10][11][12] GCN is made up of carbon and nitrogen and has many applications in the field of CO 2 reduction, water splitting and photocatalytic water purification.…”

“…28 Composites with PANI such as MoSe 2 -PANI, MoS 2 -PANI, CdS-PANI and PANI-BiVO 4 have been studied for efficient photocatalytic activity. 7,29 The composite of GCN with PANI may be an ideal photocatalyst as photogenerated carriers can be separated efficiently due to the charge transfer between GCN and PANI. The larger surface area of TGCN/PANI allows better contact between the pollutant and nanocomposite molecule to enhance the overall adsorption and photocatalytic efficiency.…”
