Insecticide Residues in Head Lettuce, Cabbage, Chinese Cabbage, and Broccoli Grown in Fields

Abstract: The residues of four insecticides belonging to different families were studied on head lettuce (Lactuca sativa L. var. capitata L.), cabbage (Brassica oleracea Linn. var. capitata DC.), Chinese cabbage (Brassica pekinensis Skeels), and broccoli (Brassica oleracea var. italica) after pesticide application. To reduce application variability, a tank mix of acetamiprid 20% SP, chlorpyrifos 22.5% EC, deltamethrin 2.4% SC, and methomyl 40% SP was applied at recommended and double doses. Initial deposits of all pesti… Show more

“…Among the various pesticides being used during the cultivation of kimchi cabbage, acetamiprid and chlorantraniliprole are widely used insecticides against moths ( Plutella xylostella and Spodoptera exigua ), aphids ( Lipaphis erysimi and Myzus persicae ), and striped flea beetles ( Phyllotreta striolata ) [12,13]. The neonicotinoid acetamiprid ((E)- N 1 -[(6-chloro-3-pyridyl)methyl]- N 2 -cyano-N 1 -methylacetamidine) is a systemic insecticide, having a translaminar mode of action in the stomach and acting as an acetylcholine receptor agonist.…”

“…The dissipation of chlorantraniliprole has also been studied in tomato, grape, strawberry, and cauliflower [23,24,25,26]. Chen, et al [12] performed a similar field study of acetamiprid on Chinese cabbage ( Brassica pekinensis Skeels ). They compared the residue data with the MRL and suggested the pre-harvest interval, but no degradation kinetics or biological half-lives were studied.…”

“…Pesticide residues have been found in many raw agricultural commodities such as vegetables and fruits, and processed foods worldwide in the past decades (Chen et al, 2011; Chen et al, 2014; Huan et al, 2015; Li et al, 2014; Osei-Fosu et al, 2014; Sapbamrer & Hongsibsong, 2014; Wang et al, 2013; Wanwimolruk et al, 2015a; Wanwimolruk et al, 2015b). Presently, information on pesticide contamination in vegetables in Thailand is limited and systemic investigation is desired to verify the current status of pesticide contamination in food, particularly in vegetables and fruits.…”
