Abstract

<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p> The compounds η<jats:sup>7</jats:sup>-C<jats:sub>7</jats:sub>H<jats:sub>7</jats:sub>Mo(CO)<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>R (R = CH<jats:sub>3</jats:sub>, C<jats:sub>6</jats:sub>H<jats:sub>5</jats:sub>) were synthesized and characterized. The SO<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>-insertion into the Mo-C bond of the methyl and phenyl species was accomplished by condensing dry SO<jats:sub>2</jats:sub> into the ether solutions of the compounds. The SeO<jats:sub>2</jats:sub> and TeO<jats:sub>2</jats:sub> insertion was only successful with the methyl compound activating the dioxides in a metal vapour apparatus. There is strong evidence that Zn can also be inserted in the Mo-C bond of η<jats:sup>7</jats:sup>-C<jats:sub>7</jats:sub>H<jats:sub>7</jats:sub>MO(CO)<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>CH<jats:sub>3</jats:sub>.</jats:p>
