Inserts and Insert/ Parenthetic Constructions in the Current Ukrainian Language: Status, Functions

Abstract

The problems of syntax are constantly at the center of attention of linguists, because the sentence structure in modern Ukrainian is rather flexible, which reacts sensitively to the target institutions of communication. This leads to the emergence of new questions at every stage of scientific knowledge. The issues of the insert category are also of such urgent issues, since today the researches, connected with the inserted structures, do not completely solve the problem of their formation and development in modern linguistics. The article deals with the actual problems associated with the development of the insert category, analyzes the history of the theory of inserts and inserted components in modern linguistics, reveals the common and specific features of the functioning of these structures. The principles of separation of inserts and inserted structures in linguistics are investigated. The analysis shows that in the early stages of the development of syntactic science, the delimitation of the inserted and inserted components was not considered, since they had no clear boundaries. Later, the attention of scholars was focused on the essence of instabilities; the functioning of the insert units; their analysis and semantics; the ratio of them to the part of the sentence. Separation of inserted structures occurred in the late 50'sin the early 60's of the twentieth century. It was found out that the inserted designs were a productive means of organizing scientific and educational texts. Since the concept of "insertion" goes beyond the traditional syntax and makes the implementation of the plane of expression, which belongs to the specificity of not only a certain style, but also a particular author, the study of this category in linguistics will remain relevant in the future.
