“…Quattrone (2015, p. 3) argued that “rationality and institutional logics, and the commensurate numerical and scientific representations, such as accounting and economic calculations, are never a priori, complete, and objective. They are always subject to continuous power struggles and translations.” This approach to logics is consistent with more process-based institutional analyses that comprise Scandinavian institutionalism, as well as related concepts and approaches such as the German institutionalist notion of Leitideen, which emphasizes how guiding orientations and practices are always in flux (e.g., Lepsius, 1996; Meyer, Jancsary, & Höllerer, forthcoming; Rehberg, 1997). Such analytical (and ontological) commitments provide resources for further elaboration of the constitutive nature of logic dynamics.…”

“…The classical point of view is that institutions develop, emerge, and are discovered or disseminated. After being established, institutions acquire a certain degree of social autonomy and necessity: they tend to transcend themselves, to make themselves 'unavailable' (Rehberg, 1997). As Offe has argued, in a critique of the explanatory potential of such approaches to institutional analysis, this serves 'to obscure their origins in [the] intentional action of concrete individuals and groups ' (1996: 215).…”
