Engineering and technology educators continually strive for realistic, hands-on laboratory exercises to enhance their students' learning. This research describes the redesign of an undergraduate introductory computer networking course to include new weekly virtual laboratory assignments that culminate in a 'real world' final project of configuring a 'corporate' network. The use of an Internet testbed technology named ISEAGE allows students to design and implement fully functional networks using public IP space that is contained in the testbed. To the students, it appears as if they were directly connected to the Internet while still being protected. This paper shows that 'real world' projects using virtual lab technology can have a positive effect both on objective networking knowledge, as well as subjective selfassessments of self-efficacy with regard to implementing the technology. It also demonstrates that 'real world' final projects encourage student thinking at upper levels of Bloom's taxonomy.

In private and expensive experimental laboratory studies, there are problems such as difficulty in accessing measuring devices and materials, space and time problems, and insufficient technical support due to the need for expertise. In this study, a fiber optic laboratory (FOL), which can be used for educational and scientific research purposes, has high installation costs and has difficulty in accessing devices, was designed and realized as a remote accessible/fully controllable. All devices in the proposed laboratory have been virtualized on the MATLAB App Designer platform, and communication protocols have been defined and made remotely accessible and controllable. In the proposed system, the user accessed remotely can perform all device controls, record the measurement results, take the measurement average as much as he wants to increase the measurement accuracy, monitor the experimental setup with a camera, and receive expert support. Afterward, a sample experiment was set up on the system and the results were compared. The proposed laboratory has a high potential to establish international collaborations in remote/flexible work and scientific research. Finally, a scale was applied to FOL undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral student groups. The Cronbach α coefficient showing the reliability of the applied model was found to be .934.

Online experimental systems that include remote and virtual experiments based on the Internet has become a new form of experiment in engineering education. This paper proposes a virtual experiment for the complex process control system. It is based on the networked control system laboratory (NCSLab), which provides a reliable framework for virtual thermal experiment. Taking the combustion system of 1000 MW ultra-supercritical coal-fired once-through boiler-turbine units as an example, the framework and the implementation process of the online system are given in this paper. A new presentation form for complex processes control experiment is provided, which could be a solution for simulating physical experimental equipment in virtual environments. The potential danger in practical experiments could be avoided. Additionally, the real-time operation for complex control systems could be presented in a 3D scene. Meanwhile, the flexibility and efficiency could be increased in engineering experimental education. Moreover, using the experiment evaluation method, the references and feedback for teaching and assessment are provided in this paper.
