Integrated Monitoring Approach for Seamless Service Provisioning in Federated Clouds

Abstract: Abstract-Cloud Computing offers simple and cost effective outsourcing in dynamic service environments, and allows the construction of service-based applications using virtualization. By aggregating the capabilities of various IaaS cloud providers, federated clouds can be built. Managing such a distributed, heterogeneous environment requires sophisticated interoperation of adaptive coordinating components. In this paper we introduce an integrated federated management and monitoring approach that enables autonom… Show more

“…A variation of the MAPE control loop is introduced into the framework that acknowledges the multifaceted nature of SOSs. Kertész et al [27] integrate SALMon [36] in IMA4SSP -their monitoring approach to seamless service provisioning -so that it can collect dynamic reliability information of SOSs expressed in predefined quality metrics.…”

“…Given any execution path EP i 2, the total cost needed to implement the local monitoring strategies for all the BCs on EP i must not exceed the budget allocated to EP i . Constraints family (33) ensures that the number of all the monitors to be allocated must not exceed the number of available monitors. Constraints families (34)-(36) express the upper and lower bounds for the number of monitors (denoted by a), monitoring frequency (denoted by b) and monitoring granularity (denoted by g) of every local monitoring strategy.…”

“…A variation of the MAPE control loop is introduced into the framework that acknowledges the multi-faceted nature of SBSs. In [33], the authors integrate SALMon [46] in IMA4SSP, their monitoring approach to seamless service provisioning. SALMon is a monitoring system that can collect dynamic reliability information of SBSs expressed in pre-defined quality metrics.…”

“…In [17] the authors proposed a monitoring approach that enables autonomous service provisioning in federated clouds. Among the others, the framework was mainly conceived to either support the deployment, or delegate the execution of the requested services as virtual machines on a specific IaaS.…”
