Integrating fluorescence and interactance measurements to improve apple maturity assessment

Abstract: Fluorescence and reflectance (or interactance) are promising techniques for measuring fruit quality and condition. Our previous research showed that a hyperspectral imaging technique integrating fluorescence and reflectance could improve predictions of selected quality parameters compared to single sensing techniques. The objective of this research was to use a low cost spectrometer for rapid acquisition of fluorescence and interactance spectra from apples and develop an algorithm integrating the two types of … Show more

“…The principle of fluorescence spectroscopy can be applied in the field of food and agriculture as a method for quality control of milk products (Andersen and Mortensen, 2008, Loudiyi et al ., 2020, Ozbekova and Kulmyrzaev, 2017, Ullah et al., 2017, Genis et al ., 2019). To assess the quality of fruits, hyperspectral imaging methods have been suggested (Yahaya et al ., 2015, Noh and Lu, 2006, Moraga et al ., 2011, Cen et al ., 2011, Udomkun et al ., 2016).…”

“…Hyperspectral imaging methods were suggested for the fruits quality assessment (Cen, Lu, Mendoza, & Ariana, 2011;Moraga, Talens, Moraga, & Martínez-Navarrete, 2011;Noh & Lu, 2006;Udomkun, excitation and of the luminescence of products of different humidity are qualitatively similar, but with increasing humidity, the curves shift down. The excitation and luminescence spectra of grindings shift down with an increase in the average diameter of grinding particles.…”
