The production systems and product lines used in the collaborative research centre (SFB 578) are considered to be an example for the superior goal to develop new tools, methods, data, and models for bioprocess design. Integrating genetic, biologic, biochemical and engineering methods for process design is helpful to reduce the development efforts and costs. Basic parameters describing the whole process have to be found and systems biotechnological models have to be developed. They should enable to synthesize products in biologically active form in high concentration, yield, and purity with as few production steps as possible.
