Integration of Factory Planning and ERP/MES Systems: Adaptive Simulation Models

Abstract: Abstract. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the approach of a scalable, flexible and adaptive simulation model used in factory planning on the basis of existing ERP and MES data. The dynamic simulation model was developed to validate and verify the changes of the production yield during factory planning and restructuring in the shop floor. This includes machinery relocation and ramp-up, new product phase-in, product portfolio changes and new product qualification processes. The objective is to enable… Show more

“…Most of the found case studies (see Table 1) used customised data tables as input for their simulation approaches, which complicates the implementation in industrial processes. However, Wang et al [47] and Mertins et al [48] use ERP and MES data for generic simulation models. ERP and MES data usage enable digital twin modelling, especially for enterprises without sufficient knowledge and programming know-how.…”

“…As identified from several references approaching the virtual area of quality management in manufacturing, simulation also plays an important role for vQM in developing models capable to foresee, adapt to, and optimize different scenarios by analyzing existing data [57], to increase efficiency and implement sustainable development [58] or even to reproduce measurement uncertainty due to temperature, humidity or other external influences [59]. Moreover, the approach proposed by Reference [60], regarding stochastic simulations for tolerance analysis "contributes to the improvement of virtual quality assessment", which in this case, takes place already in the design stage of a product's life cycle.…”

“…or/and auxiliary resources. Parameterization of the simulation model is carried out using data on orders planned to be executed in the production system [16][17][18][19]. The approach proposed in this paper constitutes a development of the above-mentioned concept of the ability to automatically generate simulation models that could be implemented in advanced commercial systems simulation with 3D visualization of processes flow in the system.…”
