Exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) is a cost-effective healthy behavior for the mother–child dyad. Globally, rates of EBF are low. Little research has been conducted on the joint role of modifiable and nonmodifiable variables in pregnant women’s decision-making. The aim was to develop and test a model that used personal and sociodemographic factors to predict whether pregnant women who use public healthcare services plan to breastfeed. In a nonprobabilistic sample of 728 pregnant Mexican women, self-efficacy, the planned behavior theory constructs, and the intention to breastfeed (BFI) were measured. A total 60% of the sample was randomly chosen to develop a predictive multivariate logistic regression model. The model was validated in the remaining 40%. Women in the highest tertiles of attitudes and self-efficacy had fourfold increased chances of having a high BFI (OR 4.2, 95% CI [2.4, 7.4]). Working was associated with a decreased intention to exclusively breastfeed (OR 0.61, 95% CI [0.37, 0.98]). The model predicted BFI with a sensitivity of 38.3% and specificity of 82.2%. While personal variables predict the BFI, working decreases women’s chances of breastfeeding. The results can be utilized to develop primary prevention strategies to help mothers who use public health services to breastfeed.

Lockdown is considered to be a successful strategy for preventing the spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). To predict the behavioral intention to stay under lockdown (BIKL), components of the theory of planned behavior (TPB) and the behavioral indicators of infection were applied. Sampling was conducted between 11 April and 30 May 2020. The objective of the study was to identify factors predictive of BIKL by means of a structural equation model. Method: A correlational and comparative repeated measures study was conducted with a sample of 315 participants from different cities in Mexico. Results: Model indices were χ2 = 505.1, SD = 228, p < 0.001, χ2/SD = 2.2, CFI = 0.91, RMSEA = 0.06, and SRMR = 0.06; 47% of BIKL was explained by the variables attitude (β = 0.71, p < 0.001), subjective norm (β = 0.14, p = 0.042), and behavioral control (β = 0.24, p < 0.001). Conclusions: Personal and family work conviction and persuasion are favorable for the maintenance of lockdown, including concepts of civic responsibility, a positive attitude, and a family that supports compliance with lockdown. From a governmental point of view, there is a context that promotes control over the situation and exerts a positive impact on the behavioral intention to stay under lockdown.

Introduction: Breast milk is the best food to meet the nutritional needs of the child, exclusively for the first 6 months and up to two years of age, favoring the establishment of the mother-child bond. Objective: To carry out a cognitive intervention to the women who attend the “breastfeeding support group”. Method: Quantitative research, with a quasi-experimental design, in a census sample made up of 11 pregnant women and 19 breastfeeding women. The Iowa Infant Feeding Attitudes Scale (IIFAS) was used. Results: 33.30% (10) are between 33-35 years old, 63% (19) in the puerperium, 56% (17) with primary education, 60% (18) carry out agricultural / cattle raising activities, 53% (16) in free union. In the pre-intervention, the women had a positive attitude with a score of 17-48 towards artificial breastfeeding 83% (25), in the post-intervention the positive attitude towards breastfeeding changed 87% (26), with a significant difference of p <0.01, in the items of the IIFAS instrument in the pre-intervention a mean and standard deviation of 2.07 ± 1.16, with an increase in the post-intervention of 4.48±0.65, a significance difference <0.05 in the total of questions in the pre-intervention from 35.23, increased after the intervention to 76.13, their attitude changed to exclusive breastfeeding. Conclusions: the cognitive intervention increased the positive attitude towards exclusive breastfeeding, highlighting that a timely educational intervention of promotion, support and accompaniment during pregnancy and postpartum guarantees the duration and exclusivity of breastfeeding.
