Intensifying Heat Using MOF‐Isolated Graphene for Solar‐Driven Seawater Desalination at 98% Solar‐to‐Thermal Efficiency

Abstract: Photothermal materials are crucial for diverse heating applications, but it remains challenging to achieve high energy conversion efficiency due to the difficulty to concurrently improve light absorbance and suppress heat loss. Herein, a zeolitic imidazolate framework‐isolated graphene (G@ZIF) nanohybrid is demonstrated that utilizes ultrathin, heat‐insulating ZIF layers, and G@ZIF interfacial nanocavity to synergistically intensify light absorbance and heat localization. Under artificial sunlight illumination… Show more

“…Recently, Han et al achieved in situ growth of MOF on Zn 2+ -anchored graphene, wherein the insulating ZIF coating and interfacial cavity intensified the thermal concentration and heat localization, resulting in a record high efficiency of 96%. [109] Moreover, some other effective solar absorbers, like plasmonic metals and semiconductors, can be employed as coingredient with carbonbased materials to achieve better performance synergistically. For structure design, various aforementioned strategies can be served as reference and guidance for the following research.…”

“…Carbon-based materials have broad application prospects in photothermal conversion due to their wide band absorption and excellent photothermal properties. [31][32][33][34][35] To quantitatively characterize the intrinsic optical properties of the adhesive heating patch, the transmission and reflection spectra in the solar spectrum range at Earth's surface were measured. As a reference, the overall light absorption of pure resin with a thickness of 1 mm is only about ≈12% in the whole solar spectrum due to the high transmittance (≈73%) and reflectance (≈15%) weighted with the AM 1.5G solar irradiance (Figure 3A).…”

“…In addition, photothermal materials with high photothermal conversion efficiency, robust stability, and costefficiency are also of great signicance for the construction of SVGs. [12][13][14] Prussian blue (PB) is a prototype of mixed-valence transition-metal hexacyanoferrates, whose common parent structure is based on a cubic lattice and corresponds to the idealized composition Fe 4 [Fe(CN) 6 ] 3 . C^N acts as a bridge for Fe 2+ and Fe 3+ , i.e.…”
