Inter-rater reliability of post-arrest cerebral performance category (CPC) scores

Abstract: Purpose Cerebral Performance Category (CPC) scores are often an outcome measure for post-arrest neurologic function, collected worldwide to compare performance, evaluate therapies, and formulate recommendations. At most institutions, no formal training is offered in their determination, potentially leading to misclassification. Materials and Methods We identified 171 patients at 2 hospitals between 5/10/2005 and 8/31/2012 with two CPC scores at hospital discharge recorded independently – in an in-house quali… Show more

“…We evaluated the CPC score as the scale of neurological outcome, and this was rated according to the report of the rehabilitation department. Interestingly, this score has shown interrater variability [31]; however, as it was not evaluated in this study, this may be considered as a limitation. Fourth, the outcome of ECPR in patients with OHCA is influenced by the system of emergent medical services and pre-hospital treatment.…”

“…Achievement of sustained ROSC was declared when patients had a noticeable pulse for longer than 20 min. Neurologic status was quantified based on cerebral performance category (CPC) scales at the time of hospital discharge, and CPC 1-2 were considered as favorable neurologic outcomes [17].…”
