Cisplatin belongs to the most widely used cytostatic drugs. The determination of the presence of the DNA-cisplatin adducts may not only signal the guanine-rich regions but also monitor the interaction reaction between DNA and the drug in terms of speed of interaction.In this work, the combined advantages of magnetic particles-based isolation/purification with fluorescent properties of quantum dots (QDs) and antibodies targeted on specific recognition of DNA-cisplatin adducts are demonstrated. The formation of a complex between magnetic particles with surface modified by anti-dsDNA antibody, cisplatin-modified DNA and QDs labelled anti-cisplatin-modified DNA antibody was suggested and optimized.

An effective polyhydroquinone/graphene nanocomposite was developed to remove Cu(II) and Zn(II) metal ions in water. The composite nanomaterial was characterized by FT‐IR, SEM, TEM, XRD, Raman spectroscopy, and thermo‐gravimetry. The surface of the material was heterogeneous with 10–20 nm particle size. The adsorption capacity of Cu(II) and Zn(II) metal ions were 40.9 and 24.8 μgg−1, respectively. The sorption followed Langmuir, Freundlich, Tempkin and D−Rs models. The process of adsorption was successfully described by pseudo‐second‐order model, thereby indicating the chemical nature of the main adsorption mechanism. Thus, it can be argued that the adsorption proceeded in a mixed‐diffusion mode, with a significant contribution of a large number of high affinity active sites located on the adsorbent surface. The uptake time was 60 and 15 minutes for Cu(II) and Zn(II) at pH 6.0; indicating fast hydro‐friendly nature and making the method applicable to solve water pollution in real life problems. Therefore, the reported method may be used to remove Cu(II) and Zn(II) metal ions in any water resource.

Development of highly efficient, low cost adsorbents for heavy metal ion removal from wastewater is an enduring undertaking. Two major groups of nanocomposite adsorbents are reviewed here. The magnetic carbon family is first discussed including the preparation of such materials. Various carbon sources have been used in the preparation, and the structural characteristics have been analyzed. Cr(VI) removal studies unveil a wide range of performance. The second group adsorbents is polymer functionalized nanocomposites. One notable polymer is polyaniline which is a redox polymer. The redox nature allows the composite materials to facilitate Cr(VI) reduction to Cr(III) which is prone to precipitate under neutral pH condition. The studies show that polyaniline can be feasibly synthesized in situ to cover the support surface, while the support provides mechanical strength and suitable surface area for Cr adsorption. A similar approach is the in situ synthesis of poly(acrylic acid) in the presence of support materials. This group of materials have been applied in Pb(II) removal and the performance is analyzed. 38 environment.
