Interactions of Immunoglobulins G and M in the Detection of the Mammalian C-Type Virus Cross-Reactive Antigen

Abstract: The mammalian C-type tumor viruses share an antigenic determinant, gs-3, located on the major internal polypeptide of the virion. Detection of this determined in gel diffusion assays by antiserums prepared in rats by immunization with rat tumor homogenates carrying murine virus and serums prepared in a rabbit by immunization with purified murine gs antigen depended on antibodies present in the fractions containing immunoglobulins M and G. The immunoglobulin G fraction by itself precipitated only the homologous… Show more

“…The virus isolated from MSB-1 cells, previously designated as M-MSV(RaLV) based on immunologic (26) and molecular hybridization methodology (5), appears to synthesize at least three distinct virus-related RNA subunits; 35S of RaLV, 30 S related to KiSV or RaLV, and 30 S of M-MSV. However, the possibility that a 30S RNA molecule with both KiSV-and M-MSV-related sequences exists has not yet been excluded.…”

“…These polypeptides react with rat anti-MuLV IEFP serum indicating that these four, and probably all, species p30s share an antigenically similar core not readily digested by trypsin. In addition, this study presents data demonstrating that some of the unusual immunological prop erties of mammalian p30s [12] are retained on the MuLV IEFP.…”
