The inhibition of sporulation septation (stage II) in Bacillus megaterium was shown with penicillin, D-cycloserine, bacitracin, vancomycin, novobiocin, chloromycetin, streptomycin, mitomycin C, and nalidixic acid. Morphological effects of inhibitors on the later stages of sporulation are well documented (7), but such effects, as opposed to metabolic effects of inhibitors, on the earlier stages of sporulation have been studied little.
