Interleukin-6 (IL-6) Level as an Indikator of Progresivity Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) Disease

Abstract: Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is autoimmune disease that attacks joints and synovial tissues. Rheumatoid Arthritis is characterized by inflammation that involves production of cytokines such as Interleukin 6 (IL-6). Increasing of interleukin 6 has correlation with activity and progressivity of the disease. This research was designed to know whether IL- 6 could be used as indicator progressivity of RA. The method that used for measuring IL-6 level is ELISA (Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay), using the principle an… Show more

“…Therefore, IL-6targeted treatment is effective in resolving the cytokine storm during the progression of COVID-19 infection. 14,15 The clinical manifestations of COVID-19 infection vary greatly, ranging from asymptomatic to severe or critical. Shortness of breath is one of the typical symptoms of COVID-19, which can quickly turn into a critical condition, such as acute respiratory distress.…”

“…14 Individuals who engage in regular physical activity have lower baseline IL-6 levels than sedentary individuals. 15 Similar studies suggest that pro-and antiinflammatory cytokines must be balanced for the immune system to modulate and consolidate neural network reorganization, as well as have positive or negative effects on brain neuroplasticity. 16 This can also be used as a reference for providing exercise for COVID-19 patients who are active or in the recovery period.…”

“…RA occurs when T lymphocytes infiltrate the joint, followed by an increase in macrophages and fibroblasts induced by cytokine shedding. Th2 activation produces a number of cytokines: interleukin-4 (IL-4), interleukin-5 (IL-5), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and interleukin-10 (IL-10) [18].…”
