Interlinked add-drop filter with amplitude modulation routing a fiber-optic microring to a lithium niobate microwaveguide

Abstract: We propose and experimentally demonstrate a new electro-optically controllable add-drop filter based on light coupling between a microfiber knot ring (MKR) and a lithium niobate (LN) microwaveguide. In our design, the MKR works as a resonator and routes the resonant light into the LN microwaveguide. The LN microwaveguide, as an excellent intermediary between electronics and optics, is a robust platform that not only enables stable support and manipulation of the MKR but also provides amplitude tunability takin… Show more

“…Photonic ADF is a key component in PICs that are used in wavelength division multiplexers, optical modulators and optical switches. [ 42–48 ] ADF consists of a looped waveguide or ring resonator (RR) and one or two bus waveguides. Most ADFs employ circular ring‐resonators (RR) to manipulate the direction of the filtered optical signals.…”

“…Thus far, organic crystal-based monolithic add-drop filters (ADF), [40,41] directional couplers [33,34] and circuits [31][32][33][34][35]40,41] have been realized.Photonic ADF is a key component in PICs that are used in wavelength division multiplexers, optical modulators and optical switches. “…Recently, the micro-nano fiber (MNF) ring resonator has been intensively investigated for its ability to measure various physical parameters, such as magnetic field, temperature, bio-chemical solution, current, salinity, force, electric field, and refractive index (RI) [1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8]. The advantages of the structure lie in its small size, anti-interference, quick response, high resolution, low detection limit and high sensitivity [9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16].…”
