International Electronic Health Record-Derived COVID-19 Clinical Course Profiles: The 4CE Consortium

Abstract: We leveraged the largely untapped resource of electronic health record data to address critical clinical and epidemiological questions about Coronavirus Disease 2019 . To do this, we formed an international consortium (4CE) of 96 hospitals across 5 countries (www.covidclinical.net). Contributors utilized the Informatics for Integrating Biology and the Bedside (i2b2) or Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership (OMOP) platforms to map to a common data model. The group focused on comorbidities and temporal chan… Show more

“…Fortunately, there are several efforts to establish data-sharing consortia that provide an opportunity for informaticians to assist with analyses. For example, the Consortium for Clinical Characterization of COVID-19 by EHR, or 4 CE (https://covidclinical.net/), has released summary-level COVID-19 data from several countries including France, Germany, Italy, Singapore, and the United States along with a preprint of the initial analyses [16].…”

“…Not only is there the possibility of over-reporting SARS-CoV-2 associated AP, there could also be under-reporting. The recently formed Consortium for Clinical Characterisation of COVID-19 comprising 96 hospitals across five countries has generated a database of anonymised electronic health records from 21,324 patients [6]. Of the 34 patients with a diagnosis of AP, 24 did not have a stated cause.…”
