Interrelation Between Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin Inhibitory Activity in Plasma and Urine and the Rate of Urinary Gonadotrophin Excretion

Abstract: The interrelation of urinary and plasma human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG) inhibitors and the urinary excretion rate of gonadotrophin was studied in ten physically and mentally retarded young males. It was found that the HCG-inhibitory principles had no effect when assayed against the boys' own urinary gonadotrophins. The excretion rate of urinary gonadotrophin was found to be independent of the presence of urinary or plasma HCG-inhibitors, which in turn were not related to the boys' physical development.Certai… Show more

“…In this paper, only investigations carried out iu four extreme cases, two negro and two white boys, are described. Similar studies of the 16 patients mentioned above, who can be regarded as controls to this patient group, have already been published (Reiss, ct al., 1965 andYamashita, (•( al., 1965. ) Investigation of the present group of four patients started at the same time but was continued for a further year.…”

“…total dose) was to be tested, as was mainly the case of the patients descriijed in this paper, fresh urine was used for the injections; when, however, larger amounts of urine were to be investigated the inhibitory substance was first absorbed on Kaolin and then eluted from the adsorbate as described by Soffer, (•/ al. (1961), and Yamashita, et al (1965). The mice were sacrificed on the fifth day after the first injection, ovaries and uteri were dissected and weighed.…”
