“…These plasmons were found to be split into two modes In MOS structures in which the oxide thickness has o,(q,,) reflecting the effect of the periodic density been periodically modulated with sub-micrometre modulation on the plasmon dispersion. This is shown period b , Mackens et nl (1984) system had been predicted by Krasheninnikov and Chaplik (1981) in a perturbation theory model. Assuming that the modulation amplitude of the static density modulation is small compared with the average density N, and that w/q@uF (Fermi velocity) they predict a splitting at q,, = n(;r/b) of…”

“…The electron transport is diffusive but, due to the fact that the elastic scattering centres (impurities) are away from the electron gas, a very high mobility is obtained. For low electron densities the renormalized confining potential in the direction normal to the interfaces, originated by the modulated voltage, can be approximated by a harmonic potential [12][13][14][15]. In the present work we are interested in the non-linear transport of such a quantum wire under the action of an applied magnetic field perpendicular to the interfaces.…”

“…The potential relief in the plane of the ZD electron channel in MOS devices or heterostructures is produced by a specially shaped electrode or by photoionized impurities. The present work was stimulated by far infrared absorption (FIR) experiments [4,5], in which the zero-wave vector odd modes of plasma oscillations with non-zero spatially averaged current density are observed. The dependence of resonant frequencies on the averaged areal density E in the device was investigated, and the most specific feature was found in a sharp frequency drop at some value of E. This value did not depend on the transverse magnetic field also present in the experiment and was considered to be the critical concentration, below which the redistribution of electron density fails to screen the external potential completely and the modulated continuous charge distribution is transformed into a periodic array of isolated stripes.…”
