Interventionelle Therapieoptionen paravalvulärer Leckagen

Abstract: Paravalvular leak (PVL) is a relatively rare, but serious complication occurring in up to 10% of patients after prosthetic aortic valve replacement and in up to 17% of patients after prosthetic mitral valve replacement. Up to 5% of patients will present with symptoms of congestive heart failure or mechanical haemolytic anaemia due to PVL and need further surgical or interventional treatment. Surgical repair is often technically challenging and carries a high mortality and morbidity risk. Catheter-based closure… Show more

“…Transcatheter closure of PVL has emerged as a promising alternative with low complication rates and high clinical success [23]. Compared with surgical closure of PVL, lower mortality rates have been documented in patients treated with transcatheter closure [23]. Smolka et al reported transcatheter PVL closure in 49 patients, 29 in the mitral position and 20 in the aortic position.…”

“…Available clinical results for PVL closure are promising, with low complication rates and high technical or clinical success rates (60% to 90%) (5) . Compared with surgical closure of PVL, lower mortality rates (30-day mortality rate 4.6%) have been documented in patients treated with transcatheter closure (5) . Smolka et al (6) .…”
