Intrarenal Arteriovenous Malformation

Abstract: Our surgical experience with 7 cases of intrarenal vascular malformation is reported. Based on angiographic criteria the so-called congenital arteriovenous fistula of the kidney may be classified either as the cirsoid type, which represents a truly congenital form of arteriovenous malformation, or as the aneurysmal type, which is considered to be idiopathic or spontaneous. These 2 types of arteriovenous malformations are compared with regard to clinical presentation and the choice of surgical treatment for eac… Show more

“…Renal AVMs can be asymptomatic but usually present with gross hematuria which is the most frequent symptom in congenital AVMs and has been reported in 72-80% of the cases [2,3]. Gross hematuria is more frequent in AVMs in contrast to acquired arteriovenous fistulas.…”

“…The most common presenting symptoms of arteriovenous malformations are gross hematuria and hypertension (72 and 24% of the cases, respectively) [2,3]. Herein we present an unusual case of a huge renal arteriovenous malformation that had both different presenting symptoms and a unique ultrasonographic pattern, and discuss the need to use other imaging tools, in addition to ultrasound, in order to determine the nature of a kidney mass.…”
