Introducing the Electrical Data Recorder as a new capturing device for power grid analysis

Abstract: Power systems are facing fundamental changes concerning functionality and dynamics today. However, detailed data of the system are property of the suppliers or distributors and are not easily available to researchers at present. In order to understand the system dependencies we propose to derive state information by combining high-rate low-voltage time series captures at different locations together with a simulation model of the grid. We take the island network like KIT campus as our starting investigation si… Show more

“…Also, other capturing devices like network analyzers do not provide appropriate interfaces to continuously transfer the high rate transient captures to an external storage [3]. Therefore, we developed the EDR (Electrical Data Recorder) capturing device to get comprehensive access to the measurements [4]. The entire acquisition data is stored in a central database and advanced storage methods for big data analysis have been implemented.…”

“…Every electrical device within the smart home is monitored secondly and meters for power quality are monitoring the building's grid connection point. For this purpose the Electrical Data Recorder [12] provides high rate voltage time series. The building automation allows for remote control of lights and rolling shutters.…”
