Inventaire des collections archéologiques originaires de Bavay

Abstract

The Bavay archaeological findings have long enriched French and foreign museums. This first article itemizes collections of various origins and kept in the store-rooms of the Direction des Antiquités du Nord/Pas-de-Calais : one will note in particular a series of stamps on terra-nigra and a collection of mediaeval and modern pottery. One the other hand, we went through the lists of identification marks (essentially on sigillata pottery) originating in Bavay and kept in the Douai Museum (the material itself was lost in the 1944 bombing). This enabled us to update F. Oswald's index published under the «Douai» heading. One considers publishing in a further issue of this review the Stoclet Collection kept in the Valenciennes Museum and the pottery from Bavay currently on trust at the Menton Museum.
