ABSTRACT:Installation Planning is constrained by both natural and social conditions, especially for spatially sparse but functionally connected facilities. Simulation is important for proper deploy in space and configuration in function of facilities to make them a cohesive and supportive system to meet users' operation needs. Based on requirement analysis, we propose a framework to combine GIS and Agent simulation to overcome the shortness in temporal analysis and task simulation of traditional GIS. In this framework, Agent based simulation runs as a service on the server, exposes basic simulation functions, such as scenario configuration, simulation control, and simulation data retrieval to installation planners. At the same time, the simulation service is able to utilize various kinds of geoprocessing services in Agents' process logic to make sophisticated spatial inferences and analysis. This simulation-as-a-service framework has many potential benefits, such as easy-to-use, on-demand, shared understanding, and boosted performances. At the end, we present a preliminary implement of this concept using ArcGIS javascript api 4.0 and ArcGIS for server, showing how trip planning and driving can be carried out by agents.

Abstract. The Web 2.0 paradigm has radically changed the way businesses are run all around the world. Moreover, e-Commerce has overcome in daily shopping activities. For management teams, the assessment, evaluation, and forecasting of online incomes and other business-oriented performance measures have become 'a holy grail', the ultimate question imposing their current and future e-Commerce projects. Within the paper, we describe the development of a Web-based simulation model, suitable for their estimation, taking into account multiple operation profiles and scenarios. Specifically, we put focus on introducing specific classes of e-Customers, as well as the workload characterization of an arbitrary e-Commerce website. On the other hand, we employ and embed the principles of the system thinking approach and the system dynamics into the proposed solution. As a result, a complete simulation model has been developed, available online. The model, which includes numerous adjustable input variables, can be successfully utilized in making 'what-if'-like insights into a plethora of business-oriented performance metrics for an arbitrary e-Commerce website. This project is, also, a great example of the power delivered by InsightMaker  , free-ofcharge Web-based software, suitable for a collaborative online development of models following the systems thinking paradigm.

In this paper we want to present the tools and a methodology to realize web based simulations according to the didactic model defined for the Virtual Scientific Experiment. The strategy that we suggest intends to satisfy all the requirements for the actors involved in the learning process according to the adopted didactic model. These requirements provide that: the tools for building the simulations have to serve a teacher instead of a programmer of web based simulations; the simulation outputs showed at the learner have to focus his attention on the contents instead of the modalities to interact with the presentation; and last but not least, the simulation must not be static, but it evolves according to the different phases expected from the adopted didactic model. From a practical point of view the results reached by us until now are realized by IWT (Intelligent Web Teacher). IWT is a distance learning platform designed with the precise purpose to lay the foundation for the next e-learning generation. We extended IWT with the instruments required to support the new methodology.These are the keywords.
