The existence of learning resources based on local phenomena is presumed to be able to optimize genetic learning processes. The purposes of this study were (1) to produce module based on the blue eyes phenomenon occurred in Buton Island for genetic material in senior high school and (2) to find the quality of the module produced. This study used research and development (R & D) based on Borg & Gall model which was limited to seventh step. The research involved three validators, six students in initial field testing step, and 70 students in main field testing. The data collection technique used was questionnaire. The data obtained were calculated as percentages of module quality. The results of the material validation, media validation, and practitioners were 96.52% (very valid); 82.40% (very valid); and 83.75% (very valid), respectively. In addition, the student responses to the module was 22.13% (good). In conclusion, this module can be used as a learning resource for senior high school students in genetic learning.

Group work becomes one of the effective and efficient teaching methods in education. Many teachers believe that group work gives many benefits to students. Young learners have different learning characteristics with adult learners. They need particular teaching treatments that are different from adult learners. That matter raises the question of whether group work can be applied to young learners. This research aimed at investigating the teachers' perception towards the implementation of group work in teaching English to young learners. The participants of this study were four native English teachers who had experiences in teaching English to young learners. A questionnaire and interview were used to collect data and the results were analysed qualitatively through a descriptive approach. The research found that the participants had positive perceptions towards the implementation of group work in teaching English to young learners.

The Concept of Active Learning and the Measurement of Learning Outcomes: A Review of Research in Engineering Higher Education

Active learning has gained growing political, instructional, and research interest. However, the definitions of active learning are wide. The learning outcomes related to it have been mostly positive but the measurement methods are not without problems. This review provides an overview of active learning, especially in the context of engineering higher education, by answering two research questions: (1) How is the concept of active learning defined and justified in engineering higher education research? (2) What are the learning outcomes connected to active learning and how is learning measured in engineering higher education research? Sixty-six empirical articles were analyzed inductively with qualitative content analysis. The analysis showed that active learning was defined in various ways, and in some articles, it was not defined at all. In addition, justification (theoretical or empirical) for the use of active learning was seldomly reported. Finally, the indicators used to measure the impact of active learning on students’ learning outcomes were mostly based on students’ self-report data and focused on course specific development in subject-related knowledge. More thorough descriptions and theoretical justifications, as well as the consideration of learning outcomes with appropriate research methods, could reinforce the transparency of empirical interventions and the application of active learning.
