Investigating the validity of the Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale in a Nepali student sample

Abstract: This paper investigates the cross‐cultural validity of the Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale. Two samples of university students were recruited: 504 from a Nepali university and 260 from a UK university. In relation to culture, structural equation modelling analyses provided support for the scale's configural invariance and the configural, metric, and scalar invariance of two if its subscales. Evidence for measurement invariance was also found in relation to gender in both samples. Tentative analyses s… Show more

“…In Morocco, the adaptation of the WLEIS to university students provided support for a higher-order structure (four first-order factors and one second-order factor) ( Ghoudani et al 2018 ). In Nepal, using a five-point Likert scale version of the WLEIS, the related four-factor structure, as well as the invariance of the model, was corroborated with a sample of UK university students ( Sochos et al 2021 ).…”

“…WLEIS is one of the most powerful self-reported scale, which can measure four different types of emotional intelligence (EQ). But construct validity and reliability of WLEIS has been studied in different cultures and countries between 2002 and 2022, such as Chilli, 5 China, 2 , 6 15 Spain, 13 , 16 Korea, 15 , 17 , 18 Morraco, 19 Europe, 20 , 21 Hungary, 22 , 23 Pakistan, 15 USA, 11 , 24 , 25 Nepal, 26 Canada, 13 Italy, 20 , 27 and Pakistan. 28 A very few Indian researchers have studied the validity and reliability of the scale.…”
