“…A escovação das próteses é o método mais utilizado pelos usuários (COELHO;DARE, 2004), embora seja considerada ineficiente para redução do biofilme protético quando adotada de forma isolada (BARNABE et al, 2004;CHAN et al, 1991;DILLS et al, 1988;YILMAZ et al, 2004). Isso tem sido atribuído a fatores como falta de destreza manual e acuidade visual dos usuários das próteses removíveis, que são geralmente idosos (HOAD-REDDICK; GRANT; GRIFFITHS, 1990) e redução da ação da escova dental devido à proteção dos micro-organismos quando inseridos em biofilme (BAENA-MONROY et al, 2005) e às porosidades e irregularidades na resina acrílica contaminada em profundidade (CHAU et al, 1995). É importante considerar que escovação das próteses reembasadas com materiais resilientes deve ser cuidadosamente orientada uma vez que pode resultar degradação dos mesmos bem como no rompimento da interface de sua união à resina acrílica da base pelo efeito abrasivo da ação mecânica, das cerdas da escova e das partículas do dentifrício (HERMANN et al, 2008;NIKAWA et al, 1992).…”
