INVESTIGATION OF ACTIVE COMPOUND IN CLOVE (Syzygium aromaticum) EXTRAC AND COMPARED WITH INHIBITORS OF GROWTH OF SOME TYPES OF BACTERIA CAUSING FOOD POISONING

Abstract: Antimicrobial properties of Syzygium aromaticum were investigated and  phytochemical active groups were done, clove oil contain a unique active compound known as eugenol was extracted and isolated to be tested. Four different pathogenic bacterial strains (Staphylococcus auras, Listeria monocyogenes, Salmonella typhimurium and Escherichia coli) were obtained and isolated from contaminated food, three concentrations for the plant (eugenol extract) were prepared to be a treatments, T1, T2 and T3 with percentage o… Show more

“…Table (1) shows that eugenol in clove extract was found as a major component with 32.5 mg/L followed by gallic acid with 24.8 mg/L, kaempferol with 12.8 mg/L, and vanillic acid 9.8 mg/L. Investigation of clove extract by Karm (14) proved that clove extract content of eugenol was the best antimicrobial agent, particularly with the high doses. In this aspect, Lee and Shibamoto (18) reported that the whole essential oil of clove or its main extract component is eugenol C6H12O2; 4-ally 1-2methoxy phenol).…”
