Investigation of construction wastes generated in the Malaysian residential sector

Abstract: The construction sector is among the fastest growing sectors in Malaysia; it consumes a vast amount of natural resources and produces a massive volume of construction and demolition waste. The waste is collected in a decentralised manner by sub-contracted companies. It is challenging to obtain reliable information on the amount of construction waste generated, because it is hard to determine its exact quantity and composition. Therefore, this study proposes a quantitative construction waste estimation model fo… Show more

“…Illegal dumping, that is, the deliberate dumping of waste in an unauthorized non-filling location, has become a widespread problem in many countries and regions (Nunes and Mahler, 2020; Tam et al, 2014; Umar et al, 2018). In Sao Paulo, Brazil, two-thirds of the 16,000 t of CDW generated every day are dumped at illegal sites (da Conceição Leite et al, 2011).…”

“…Moreover, the approximate waste generated rate from Malaysia residential project was determined by calculating the total GFA of the project (7,895,147.461 m 2 ) as adopted by numerous researchers [107][108][109]. This can be calculated as Equation (3).…”
