Investigation of DyBa2Cu3O7−d superconducting domains grown by the infiltration technique starting with small size Dy-211 particles

Abstract: An infiltration and growth process is here used as an alternative to the classical top-seeded melt-textured growth process for the production of Dy-123 single-domains with finely dispersed small size Dy-211 particles. The starting materials are the 211-particles and a barium and copper rich liquid phase precursor. The infiltration and growth process allows for controlling both the spatial and size distribution of the 211-particles in the final superconducting 123-single-domain. The main parameters (set-ups, ma… Show more

“…Such macrocracks were observed on the top surface of the drilled bulk before the measurement sequence. However, these cracks could have been extended by mechanical stresses during the field cooled procedure [18]. In the present case, the average J c degradation introduced by such cracks and estimated from the maximum value of the trapped induction is less than 50%.…”

“…R ecently , the infiltration and growth (IG) process, used for fabrication of single‐domain (here, a single domain is defined as a quasi‐single‐crystal containing many imperfections or defects) RE–Ba–Cu–O (REBCO) bulks, is attracting considerable attention because of its advantages compared with the conventional melt growth method, such as fewer pores, cracks and distortions, insignificant shrinkage in the final products, especially the homogeneous distribution of fine RE 2 BaCuO 5 (RE‐211) particles in the REBa 2 Cu 3 O 7− x (RE‐123) matrix 1–9 . For this process, as schematically shown in Fig.…”
