Investigation of ginkgo biloba leave extracts as corrosion and Oil field microorganism inhibitors

Abstract: Ginkgo biloba (Ginkgoaceae), originating from China, now distributes all over the world. Wide application of Ginkgo biloba extracts is determined by the main active substances, flavonoids and terpenoids, which indicates its extracts suitable to be used as an effective corrosion inhibitor. The extracts of Ginkgo biloba leave have been investigated on the corrosion inhibition of Q235A steel with weight loss and potentiodynamic polarisation techniques. The inhibition efficiency of the extracts varies with extract… Show more

“…Plant extracts are biodegradable and constitute remarkable rich sources of natural chemical compounds that can be extracted by simple procedures at low cost. The basic components of extracts are sugars, gallic acid, ellagic acid and flavanoids [12,13]. The presence of tannins, cellulose and polycyclic compounds normally enhances the film formation over the metal surface, thus decreasing corrosion [14,15].…”

“…The increasing of ct value and decreasing of CPE value also showed adsorption process. The quercetin (Figure 7 aromatic rings [30] that can interact with the vacant orbital of Fe as shown in Figure 7(b). Those interactions will form thin protective layer (Fe-quercetin complex) which protect the 304SS from the aggressiveness of sulfuric acid.…”

“…Organic inhibitors are the predominant compounds used in the oil industry because they can act as a barrier for mild steel against corrosive media. Most of these inhibitors are heterocyclic molecules, such as pyridine, imidazoline and azoles [ 32 – 34 ], or polymers [ 35 , 36 ].…”
