The study is driven by the motivation to examine the effects of policy interest rates and crude oil prices on Malaysian and Indonesian government borrowing within the framework of Keynesian macroeconomic theory. Using Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model as an estimation tool over the observed period from March 2013 till June 2018, the study uncovers the absence of long-term equilibrium relationship between government borrowings and the two explanatory variables. However, based upon Error Correction Representation via ARDL model, there is a significant long-run relation (at 10% level) between Indonesian government borrowing and the two tested variables. Interestingly, this is not the case for Malaysia over both long-run and short-run relations. With respect to the short-run dynamics, there is a unidirectional causality running from crude oil price to Indonesian government borrowing. It seems crude oil price plays a significant role in influencing Indonesian government’s choice of public financing. As expected, the short-term policy rate has no significant bearing on government borrowings at all.

Proactive Personality and Social Support With Pre-retirement Anxiety: Mediating Role of Subjective Career Success

The main objective of this paper is to investigate the mediating role of subjective career success (SCS) in the relationship between proactive personality, social support (SS), and pre-retirement anxiety. Using a two-wave longitudinal design, 624 pre-retirees were sampled (M = 56.49 years; SD = 4.56); of these, 237 (37.98%) were males and 387 (62.02%) were females. Measurement model and mediation test were performed using the SmartPLS and IBM SPSS Amos software. The result indicated that proactive personality, SS, and SCS showed negative relationships with the dimensions of pre-retirement anxiety (financial preparedness, social obligation, and social alienation). Subjective career success mediated the relationship between proactive personality and pre-retirement anxiety.

Purpose of Study: Having a sense of hope and aspirations for the future are often conceptualized as components of resilience for youth in urban environments. However, less is known about the factors that may influence how young people develop their future aspirations, and how those aspirations may impact their actions in achieving their goals. This study is a conceptual paper to identify the factors that influence the youth future aspirations and how self-efficacy acts as a moderator. Self-efficacy being defined by Albert Bandura as one's belief in one's ability to succeed in specific situations or accomplish a task. Through preliminary studies conducted by informal interviews with youth in four (4) PPR in Kuala Lumpur it was found that the youths in the PPR are divided into 3 segments firstly the illiterate youth, secondly literate youth with a few years of formal schooling and third group of youth who completed their formal schooling. Using Maslow’s hierarchy of needs as a theoretical framework we hope to identify factors that contribute towards the youth future aspirations. Methodology: In this paper, literature relating to the development and characteristics of youth in public housing, self-efficacy, and factors that influence the youth future aspirations are reviewed to ascertain if any relationship exists between them. Results: A conceptual framework is developed to propose the relationship between success factors as the independent variables and youth future aspirations as the dependent variable, with self-efficacy as the moderator. This study identified success factors that could influence the future aspirations of youth in public housing in Malaysia. We propose a model for developing youths’ future aspirations.
