Investigation of the change of the shrinkage properties in contradiction to the change of the composition of cotton polyester spandex denim fabrics

Abstract: The aim of this research is to investigate the shrinkage properties of cotton polyester spandex denim fabrics of different fiber content. Cotton fabrics with spandex have a tendency to shrink when it comes in contact of water. Cotton spandex shrinks more when it comes in contact of hot water. Cotton is swelled up in water; thereby increase the width of fibers, as a result there is the decrease of length. If the cotton composition with spandex increases, the shrinkage property of fabric also increases. The high… Show more

“…Spandex fibers also shrink greatly if hot water, steam, and hot air come into contact with a spandex content. Their elastic property made them shrink because of the rubber content [ 41 ]. But the spandex draft had no significant effect on the shrinkage of the denim fabric.…”

“…The test method measures odor-component chemicals such as ammonia and acetic acid. The test conditions included (a) amount of specimen: 10 × 10 cm; (b) test vessel: Tedlar bag (5 L); (c) gas volume: 3 L in vessel; (d) temperature and humidity: 20 ° C, 65% RH; and (e) machine wash at 80 ± 5 ° F under AATCC 135–2012 [ 34 ].…”

“…As elastane is normally recycled in small amounts in apparel, however, this amplified price does not habitually make itself ostensible at the customer level. 35 The more the spandex fibers are used in garments the more the cost of the fabrics are. For example, definite types of riding gear and expert dance clothes that comprise high levels of spandex are pretty expensive.…”
