Investigation of the flow energy dissipation law in a centrifugal impeller in pump mode

Abstract: Centrifugal impeller is usually designed for water pumping. Fluid get energy from impeller but also lose energy when passing through it. To improve the efficiency and have a better operation stability, it is necessary to understand the flow energy dissipation in centrifugal impeller in pump mode. In this case, a thermodynamic analysis is conducted on a model centrifugal pump unit based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation. Typical performance curve is found with a positive-slope efficiency curve an… Show more

“…By combining the two methods, the two are well verified with each other that the stacking problem of the vortex at the top of the impeller and the location of the energy loss caused by the vortex are consistent with the vortex location. Such a method can reveal the problem of vortex buildup at the top of the lobe well, and provide a novel guidance idea for improving the performance of high-speed fuel pumps (Tao et al, 2013(Tao et al, , 2018(Tao et al, , 2021Zhu et al, 2016).…”

“…The origin, evolution, motion, instability, and decay of vortices, as well as interactions between vortices, and between vortices and solid walls, have decisive influences on the entire flow field. In the turbomachinery, vortical flows are closely related to the irreversible loss production, [9][10][11] blockage formation, 12,13 as well as flow instabilities, 14,15 and, therefore, should be paid more attention to in relevant researches. As a fundamental item of knowledge, flow separations are often accompanied by the generation of vortical 1 School of Power and Energy, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xi'an, PR China structures.…”
