The reactions 12 (,n) 3 2 and 16 O(,n) 3 He3 is investigated by a method that employs a diffusion chamber placed in a magnetic field and irradiated by a beam of bremsstrahlung photons with an end-point energy of 150 MeV. In the excitation curve for the 2 system, a resonance is found, and this resonance identified as the ground state of the 8 Be nucleus. The parameters of the-quantum and neutron are calculated, and the partial channels 12 (,n) 3 8 0 and 16 O(,n) 3 He 8 0 reactions are singled out. It is shown that these reactions proceed according a sequential-type scheme with the formation of one or several unresolved excited states of 11 C and 15 O nuclei at the first step. The total cross section of the reactions was determined and a similarity in their behavior was found for E > 55 MeV. A jumplike change in the dependence of the kinetic energy of the neutron on E in different energy intervals of thequantum was observed.

“…Electromagnetic dissociation of ultrarelativistic 16 O, 28 Si and 32 S nuclei in collisions with Ag nuclei in nuclear emulsion was identified in several experiments [21,22] and later successfully described by modeling photonuclear reactions on these nuclei induced by virtual photons in the giant resonance region [11]. The disintegration of 12 C into four particles by photons with energy of about 40 MeV was also investigated recently in another experiment [23]. However, to the best of our knowledge, no processes of multifragmentation of light nuclei induced by energetic photons (∼1 GeV) were detected so far.…”

The reaction 16O(γ, p)3H3 induced by bremsstrahlung photons of endpoint energy Emaxγ = 150 MeV has been studied by the method of a diffusion chamber in a magnetic field. The energy dependence of the total cross section has been measured in the energy range from the threshold and has been founded a broad resonance centered at 55 MeV. The rate of decrease in the cross section undergoes a change in the region around 55 MeV. A comparison was made with the cross section for reactions 4He(γ, p)3H and 12С(γ, р)3H2. The agreement between the shapes of distributions for the (γ, p)3H reactions is evident and was concluded that the mechanism of interaction of the γ-quantum with the nucleus is similar. The dependence of average kinetic energy of particles on the total kinetic energy was determined. In the whole energy interval, the distribution for a proton is more than the statistical distribution. Distribution of relative energy of the proton and 3H nucleus in their c.m.s. does not agree with the predictions of the mechanism of photon absorption by an α-particle cluster, but at energies above the maximum, it agrees with calculations within the framework of the quasi-deuteron model of photoabsorption.
