Investigation of the room-temperature solid-state reactions leading to ZnS nanotubes and the third-order nonlinear optical properties of the nanotubes obtained

Abstract: The room-temperature solid-state reactions occurring in the preparation of nanotubes of zinc sulfide are further investigated by x-ray powder diffractometry (XRD) and infra-red (IR) spectrometry measurements, and the nanotube ZnS product obtained is measured by Z-scan technology to investigate the third-order nonlinear optical (NLO) properties. The XRD result suggests that the reactions leading to the formation of the nanotubules have occurred through reaction-controlled to growth-controlled procedures, and th… Show more

“…The larger w (3) values of Sb 2 S 3 nanosrods and Bi 2 S 3 nanorods may relate to the geometrical and electronic structures [35,36]. It is reported there is a general tendency for optical nonlinearities to be larger in 1D nanomaterials [27,28]. …”

“…One-dimensional Bi 2 S 3 and Sb 2 S 3 nanomaterials have been synthesized by hydrothermal and solvothermal methods [19][20][21][22][23][24]. Recently, NLO properties of 1D nanomaterials aroused much more attention because of their unique geometrical and electronic structure [25][26][27][28]. However, less has been done to characterize the NLO properties of nanomaterials with different geometries.…”

“…However, considerable efforts have been devoted to the preparation of transition-metal sulfide semiconductors [10][11][12]. Many methods have been exploited to prepare these metal sulfide semiconductors, such as microwave irradiation [13], pyrolysis [14], vesicles [15], organic-metallic precursor [16,17], hydrothermal synthesis [18], solid reaction [19] and so on.…”

“…Room temperature ionic liquids (ILs) have been widely investigated as a new kind of reaction media owing to their unique properties such as low volatility, nonflammability, high chemical and thermal stabilities, designable structures, high ionic conductivity, broad electrochemical windows, etc [19]. Recently efforts have been focused on the fabrication of inorganic materials with novel and improved properties using ILs as templates or cosolvent systems [20].…”

“…Moreover, crystalline powders can be prepared by directly mechanical mixing of raw materials and the need for subsequent chemical treatment is eliminated. Recently, Xin and his colleagues [17][18][19] have proposed a simple solid state reaction for preparation of a series of nanocrystal oxides and sulfide. In their process, the precursors of metal oxide were obtained by directly mixing the corresponding metal salts and alkalis with or without surfactant in a mortar at room temperature.…”
