Investigation on Water Retention Properties of Boric Acid Doped Textile Surfaces

Abstract: During the summer periods, the excellent absorbency and high water retention capacity of textile materials is important to eliminate the disturbing effect of perspiration. In this study, water retention properties of boric acid-doped textile surfaces has been investigated. For this purposes different proportions of boric acid were applied to 100% cotton fabric by means of impregnation method. Then, water retention was tested according to DIN 53923 standard, as a percentage of the water retention rate. The resu… Show more

Adsorption is a method of treatment, although adapted to remove a variety of toxic compounds in our environment [9,10]. Several studies in this field are mentioned, the clay minerals have already been extensively investigated to remove various organic pollutants and metal ions, and how to improve their adsorption capacity is critical to practical application.…”

“…The research proved to treatment using natural materials such as clays for removing dye pollutants from wastewater has been gaining more attention because of the low-cost of the materials involved and their high specific area, and a variety of surface and structural properties [6,7]. Adsorption is a method of treatment, although adapted to remove a variety of toxic compounds in our environment [8,9]. In the present study, adsorption properties for removal of methyl green (MG) by activated bentonite (AB) clay, from an aqueous solution under varied experimental conditions were investigated.…”

“…Due to promising, cheap and environmentally benign properties, boron element that imparts activity to mesoporous materials is preferrable [5]. According to literature [6], 63% of the world's total boron reserves are located in Turkey. Inspired by these studies, we prepared sulfonic acid functionalized mesoporous boron silicate, B-SBA-15-SO 3 H, in two different ways: in the first approach, boric acid was added into the initial reaction mixture in strongly acidic media.…”
