Involvement of TSP1 and MMP9/NGAL in Angiogenesis during Orthodontic Periodontal Remodeling

Abstract: In the present study the aim was to measure the levels of Thrombospondin-1 (TSP1) and Lipocalin-2/matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP9/NGAL) complex in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) at different time points of orthodontic treatment, to determine the relationship between these values and those of total-matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP9) and theirs implication in angiogenesis balance, in the situation of a good control of the bacterial plaque, emphasizing the role of TSP1 and MMP9/NGAL complex. GCF samples were col… Show more

“…THBS1 is expressed in osteoblasts [52, 53] and odontoblasts [54], especially during early stages of differentiation and mineralization [54, 55]. Interestingly, THBS1 was up-regulated in periodontia under orthodontic treatment [56], indicating a potential function in remodeling periodontal tissues.…”

“…MMP8 and MMP9 also play positive role in angiogenesis process [37,38]. However, contradicting findings demonstrated the complex role of MMP-8 in tissue repair [49].…”

“…VEGF and HGF secretion were significantly enhanced in GMs + hASCs group. Meanwhile, matrix metalloproteinases MMP8 and MMP9, bioactive factors involved in angiogenesis [37,38], were found significantly increased in GMs + hASCs group. Secretion of EGF and FGF2 exhibited no significant differences.…”

“…In studies funded by the grant ID573/2008 of the Ministry of Education and Research of Romania, we measured the levels of Pentraxin-3 (PTX3), Thrombospondin1 (TSP1), Lipoca-lin2/Matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP9/NGAL) complex and Matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP9) in GCF at different time points of the first 2 weeks of orthodontic treatment, to determine the relationship between these values and theirs implication in inflammation and angiogenesis balance, in the situation of a good control of the bacterial plaque [74,75].…”
